My core approach is Ontological Coaching.
What is Ontological Coaching, you might ask?
Ontological Coaching is looking at a “Way of Being”.Ontology means study of Being.
Way of being (how we are) is a connection between 3 parts of the human existence: language, emotions and body.
Coaching to a Way of Being provides the opportunity for deep learning when a Coach support the client when they ask themselves:
- How am I observing this?
- What is it about my way of being that has me observe this way?
- What is it about my way of being that needs to shift so that I can observe differently?
When our way of being shifts, we are different observers of ourselves and our circumstances. As if there is a camera in the room and we are looking down on ourselves.
Coaching to the depth is always done with the permission of the client, who is held as a legitimate other.
Ontological Coaching helps you become aware of how you listen, speak and your emotional reactions and how your perceptions and behaviours manifest in your body.
For example:
- “If I repeat the words that I am unsuccessful, fat and a failure” Does these words serve or help you? (Listen and speak)
- “I feel depressed, and I am not good enough” Does these moods / emotions serve or help me? (Emotions)
- “I am tired and anxious the whole time” Does these behaviours / manifestations in your body serve or help you? (Body)
As one of the best standards of Coaching, Ontological coaching helps you shift unhelpful patterns and engrained emotions at a core level and the changes will equip you to see new perspectives and possibilities for yourself.
